Fast patrol vessel ICGS Arinjay commissioned in Kochi

The 15th vessel in the series of 20 Fast Patrol Vessel, ICGS Arinjay, has been delivered by the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) more than two months ahead of schedule. The vessel will be operated from the Coast Guard Station at Okha, Gujarat.

Properties of Coast Guard Ship

• Length: 50 metres
• Displaces 317 tons of water
• Maximum speed of 61.116km/hr

The Protocol of Delivery and Acceptance was signed between

• Sunny Thomas, Director (Technical),
• Commandant Ajay Kumar Mudgal(CSL and Commanding Officer)

Purpose:

• Patrolling within the Exclusive Economic Zone and Coastal Patrol, carrying out anti-smuggling, anti-piracy and search and rescue operations, and for fisheries protection and monitoring.
• To provide a communication link, and go along coastal convoys, in times of hostilities and war.

Key points:

• Recently, India has gifted its former Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Ship Varaha to Sri Lanka.
• Indian Coast Guard has also commissioned two new ships named Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Apoorva and Interceptor Boat C-421 in September.
