Harvard University’s distinguished Humanitarian
of the Year Award has been conferred to Indian Nobel Laureate Kailash
Satyarthi. He has been bestowed with this award for championing the cause
of child reform and ending all forms of violence against children.
- It’s because of Satyarthi’s work that in 1999 Geneva
headquartered International Labour Organization approved an accord of
Convention No. 182 on the worst forms of child labour which
aimed to protect children from jobs that expose them to danger or
exploitation. This became the principal guideline for governments around
the world.
